Reaching Out

At Water's Edge, we feel that God's love isn't something that should only be shared on Sunday morning!  To that end, we make it a point to reach out to our community and further to shine God's light on others.  Below are some of the mission projects that you can get involved in:

Habitat for Humanity is currently building a home at 158 Beckett Street in Hamilton.  Below are their needs over the next few weeks:

October 17:  20 general volunteers are needed **The plan for this day is to shingle the roof, install doors and windows

                        2 crew leaders are needed

                        A person or group of people to provide lunch for

                        30 volunteers

 

October 24:  15 general volunteers are needed **The plan for this day is to shingle the roof, install soffits and insulate the basement walls                                                                                                                                             

                        2 crew leaders are needed

                        A person or group of people to provide lunch for 25 

                        volunteers 

           

Another area where Habitat for Humanity needs help is grass cutting.  They currently have 4 lots that need maintained.  Each lot requires a commitment of approximately a half hour 1-2 times a month.  Habitat can provide the lawnmower.  Any help this Fall would be a tremendous help.  The lots are the following locations in Hamilton:

·         1012 Garden Ave

·         431 Long Street

·         416 Short Street

·         821 Ludlow Street

Christmas Outreach

Our Christmas outreach this year will benefit service men and women.  We will be sending care packages filled with everyday items that, while common in our daily lives, are special treats for our troops.  Please read over the list below and begin collecting them as you do your regular shopping.  We will fill the care packages on December 6th so that they can be shipped in time for Christmas.

 

·         First and foremost – letters of support and encouragement. (include your name, address, phone number and email if you want to hear back from them)

·         DVDs (recently released pre-viewed DVD movies are fine, TV shows are great too), music CDs, and CD storage books

·         Coffee, cocoa, tea, hot cider mix, mixes to flavor water; no liquids

·         Microwaveable non perishable just-add-water foods like soups and mac-n-cheese

·         Snacks –candy, chocolate, trail mix, granola bars, gum, cookies, nuts, popcorn, chips, etc.

·         Slim Jims, jerky, pre cooked vacuum packed meats and canned chicken – NO pork items

·         Hair brushes, hair bands and barrettes

·         Deodorant (the guys like Old Spice Red Zone) and lotion (body and face)

·         Beanie Babies, etc- for the soldiers to pass out as good will gifts to the local children.

·         Room deodorizers/air fresheners

·         Nail files & nail clippers (nail polish for the girls)

·         Toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash & floss

·         Softball gloves, softballs, frisbees, etc

·         Razors and shaving cream (women like Venus disposable and men like Mach 3 and Mach 3 turbo refill blades)

·         Tampons and pads

·         Magazines (mostly men’s, not too old) books, word game books

·         Playing cards, board games, chess, checkers, etc

·         AA batteries (they have access to all other sizes)

·         Blank cards, stationery and pens

·         Baby wipes and foot powder

·         Boot scrubbers and house slippers

·         Soap, shampoo, conditioner, leave in spray conditioner

·         Twin size sheet sets, pillows, towels and wash cloths
