Consensus

Handshake

Consensus. A general agreement. In our case- unity in the Spirit. Achieved not by the means of democracy or business, but rather by the means of receiving and sharing God’s grace. Unity in the Spirit.

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.Ephesians 4:1-3

I’ve been using that word quite a bit in this season. Thought I’d take a minute today to make sure we know what that looks like in our setting as water’sEDGE.

Back in November 2017, we brought a new vision for the spiritual administration before our community of believers and one key part of its construction is a return to a practice of the early church. Agreement (consensus) in the Holy Spirit. Our Leadership Board, which is charged with official decision-making, has been learning and exercising consensus successfully since the beginning of 2018.

Because of the big decisions before us in this moment, I have been asked how consensus would be reached as to whether water’sEDGE chooses to:

A. Search Out and Grab on to God’s Vision/Holy Spirit’s Movement for The Next Decade and Beyond or A. Finish Well

The process is already well underway in prayer gatherings, worship and conferencing, in individual and group conversations, in study of the Scripture, and more. You are invited to enter in with your brothers and sisters in Christ in the next 3 weeks. Everyone is welcome. Every voice can speak. No question is off limits. The focus is on which of the two Kingdom-honoring roads we choose to travel.

On May 22 at 7 pm, your Leadership Board will have its regular meeting and I expect that a decision will likely be made on that evening. Again, as is part of our way, the meeting is open to all the water’sEDGE family. There will be prayer. There will be word. There will be worship. There will be conferencing. They’ll likely be Communion. All of those are foundations of Christian gathering. All invite the Spirit to move on us. Then there will be decision. Again, we will have opportunity to express our sense of God’s voice to one another in love. This meeting marks the end of our period of discernment. With agreement in the Spirit (a consensus with which we can all live), we will begin marking our path on the single road before us.

It may be that angels rumble among us that evening, or maybe it will be a lot subtler. Sometimes we get Acts 4 when the earth shook, other times you get Acts 15 where it just simply seemed right in the Spirit. In any case, we will then take steps to honor God in the direction we have trust Him to show.

As always, I am available should you want to talk over any of these things or ask questions or whatever you need. 419-944-9238. Usually in my pocket. May God bless us as we seek Him and speak as we listen.

YBIC,

Kevin
