Waiting

The Waiting (Placing Our Hope)

Waiting

Waiting can be so hard. Sometimes, just like a kid waiting for the bell to ring at the end of the school day, I find myself staring at my watch and being impatient. It helped me to have new perspective the day I figured out that several languages use the same verb for “to wait” as for “to hope for”. In this perspective, suddenly it’s not clock watching, but trusting in God that becomes our imperative.

Last week, we celebrated Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Allow me to back us up a few steps today.

In Acts 1:4-5, Jesus said this to His disciples, “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

After Jesus ascended to heaven, the scripture reports that 120 followers went to the place they were staying and joined together constantly in prayer; 10 days, give or take, of waiting for the Spirit.

We who are water’sEDGE have just come through six weeks of worship, communion, prayer, and conferencing as we seek to discern God’s best for our future. Last night, some of us met for these things and then your Leadership Board met afterward to work out a consensus in the Spirit. For the next eight days, we will wait (place our hope in) God’s confirmation of our consensus.

Just as the disciples did following the ascension, the Board will pray and begin some preparation for next steps and then will re-gather on Thursday, May 31 at 7 pm to confirm the direction of our waiting and working. The entirety of our water’sEDGE community is invited to join us. An official announcement as to the road before us will be made, some initial steps revealed, and others determined. Please join us.

In the waiting and hoping, please join in daily prayer for our decision-making and for the road before us. As God has been with us in every moment of our history as water’sEDGE, He will guide us in every step forward. I look forward to seeing everyone on the 31st

YBIC,
